Description
The Lithuanian Mint has created a coin series inspired by one of the oldest legends of Greek mythology—the story of Jason, the Argonauts, and the quest for the Golden Fleece. This time, we present the third coin in the series, “The Love Story of Medea and Jason.”
The third coin in the series tells the story of Medea herself—her inspiring and selfless love for her chosen one, Jason, as well as her extraordinary power. It was Medea who helped Jason overcome the trials set before him by King Aeëtes. Even in the quest to obtain the Golden Fleece, it was Medea who came to Jason’s aid, using magical herbs to lull the dragon guarding the Golden Fleece to sleep.
The coin is dedicated to the climax of this remarkable love story—the marriage of Jason and Medea. This unforgettable moment in their lives is depicted on the coin’s reverse. Having overcome every trial, Jason and Medea are finally united in each other’s embrace.
The silver coin features an Antique Finish and is adorned with a Swarovski® crystal, selective gilding, UV printing, and high-relief minting technology.
The obverse of the coin features the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by ornamental climbing vines.
