Description
We are happy to present silver ‘Summer’ coin, which launches the new ‘Four Seasons’ coin series. The reverse of the coin depicts the figure of a nude woman, subtly conveying the lightness, detachment, grace and elegance of summer personified. A keen eye will see that the woman standing in the pearl shell is reminiscent of the famous painting ‘The Birth of Venus’ by the Italian Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli, but does not blindly copy it. The Art Nouveau style adopted by the artist is evident in the decorative, expressive details of nature on the reverse and obverse – undulating, curved lines and refined shapes, giving the impression of lightness, plasticity and freshness.
It is no coincidence that the background of the reverse of the coin is decorated with jellyfish and other stylised motifs of animals and plants lurking in the depths of the water. Interestingly, in mythology, jellyfish symbolise protection against evil – the most famous Olympian god, Zeus, wore an amulet with a jellyfish as a talisman to remain powerful and glorious. This life in the deep sea is an allusion to magical summertime, which you can only speculate about and try to guess what lies ahead. But you can never, ever predict what summer will be like. All we know is that it will be unforgettable.
This Art Nouveau silver coin is a wonderful gift for people who ‘belong’ to summer. Make this coin a living memory of a special summer.
The rest of the ‘Four Seasons’ series will be released soon – don’t miss the chance to get the entire collection.
