Description
The reverse of the coin depicts Medea herself – a powerful woman, a passionately devoted lover, and a merciless sorceress who understands the true meaning of boundless love, care, passion, and betrayal. Medea has many faces and remains one of the most compelling female figures in Greek mythology. She is portrayed at a time in her life when she was happy, radiating beauty, feminine charm, and elegance. Her extraordinary feminine energy captivated Jason as well, but the spell did not last forever.
In this new creation by the Lithuanian Mint, the heroine’s portrait is adorned with five Swarovski® crystals. The green crystals symbolize the world of plants, while the blue crystal represents water.
Greek mythology is a true treasury of stories, filled with tales of gods, mythical creatures, and legendary heroes. Almost everyone has heard at least one Greek myth. One of the oldest is the story of Jason and the Argonauts, which the Lithuanian Mint has immortalized in its “Myths of Love” coin series.
The obverse of the coin features the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, framed by ornamental climbing vines.
The coin was crafted using UV printing and high-relief minting technologies.
The coin is presented in a distinctive wooden chest featuring a unique aged finish, perfectly complementing the mythological theme.
